While most of us can agree that rings are the most popular pieces of jewellery, many often don’t stop to think how they’ve helped shape certain movies and TV shows.
From silver screen proposals and bonds of everlasting love to symbols of power and domination on TV shows, here’s a look at some of the most iconic men’s rings worn by celebrities and movie characters.

Dwayne (The Rock) Johnson’s wedding ring
Dwayne Johnson’s solid gold wedding band, complete with pavé-set diamonds running along the edges, is something people still talk about to this day. After tying the knot in 2019 with Lauren Hashian, Johnson allegedly got two more chunky solid gold rings to symbolise his unnerving commitment to his significant other – one crafted from a T-Rex bone and the other one from a bull’s horn. Very apt since “The Rock” is proud of his Taurus horoscopic star just like his prized wife!

Prince Harry’s not so “royal” wedding ring
There’s rarely a dull moment in the Royal’s lives, although Prince Harry went against the grain by doing away with the British upper-class tradition entirely, it seems. Harry chose not to wear a wedding ring and, instead, flaunted his married status by wearing a lovely textured platinum band made bespoke by Cleave & Company – that happens to be the same London jeweller which made Meghan Markle’s custom three-stone engagement ring
Rose’s ring from “The Titanic”
One of the key moments in Titanic is the Heart of the Ocean necklace worn by Rose DeWitt Bukater, Kate Winslet’s character portraying the actual lady who survived the sinking.
However, aside from the necklace, one key piece of jewellery immediately caught the eye of audiences worldwide and that was Rose’s engagement ring. The ring is an ode to the early art deco and late Edwardian style of 1912, featuring a large oval centre stone, accompanied by two graduated baguettes on both sides.

Daisy’s ring from “The Great Gatsby”
The Great Gatsby certainly has a lot of fine details to delight audiences, including the wonderful backdrops and scenic locations, as well as the actors’ wardrobes and performances. However, at one point in the film, you’d be hard pressed not to notice Daisy’s ring.
The ring we speak of fits absolutely perfectly with the film’s 1920s setting, featuring a large and prominent cushion cut diamond surrounded by an entire halo of small diamonds and a micro-pave band. Daisy’s character, played by actress, Carey Hannah Mulligan, also wore a well-matched wedding band to complete the set, along with lots of accent rings, bracelets, and necklaces – perfectly complementing her art deco outfit.
Monica’s ring from “Friends”
Perhaps, one of the most popular sitcoms ever, Friends first aired on NBC in 1994, lasting an impressive ten seasons. The perfectionist from the group, Monica Geller, played by Courteney Cox, loves everything to be, well, perfect! And so, she gets to wear the perfect ring.
In one of the episodes, Chandler’s character proposes to her with a three-stone Tacori-style ring, featuring a princess cut diamond centre stone, accompanied by two triangular side stones made from sapphire. According to the actor who plays the salesperson during this scene, the ring is a vintage 1920s piece. But we all know that’s not possible because the princess cut was conceived in the 1960s. So much for historical accuracy!

Ashton Kutcher’s Etsy wedding ring
Since marrying the charming and super-likable Mila Kunis in 2015, Ashton Kutcher has always proudly worn his Etsy wedding band.
In an appearance on a TBS talk show hosted by Conan O'Brien, the actor’s wife revealed that neither one of them was with the “spend big on wedding ring” crowd. In fact, she proudly beamed that she went to Etsy, asking for a $90 ring and got exactly what she wanted. She also said that her husband’s ring was just $10 more expensive!
Well, it’s still a popular wedding ring today as it’s worn by one of the beloved, good-natured, and downright adorable couples today.

Legally Blonde’s engagement ring
Ah, yes – they sure don’t make comedy flicks today like they used to.
The American comedy from 2001, Legally Blonde, is based on a novel of the same title, written by Amanda Brown. In the first few opening scenes, Reese Witherspoon’s character (Elle Woods) is seen chasing a 6-carat diamond ring. Why? Because she is eagerly anticipating the ring to be given to her by her boyfriend in the movie, Warner Huntington.
The ring, however, ends up on someone else’s finger (Vivianne Kensington, her bestie in the movie) and Elle has to give up on this dream. The rings itself features a beautiful pear centre stone and two round brilliant side stones on both sides. Here’s the kicker: towards the end of the movie, Vivianne left the same man Elle was about to get engaged to (Warner) because she wanted to keep her friendship intact with Elle. Apparently, diamonds are not always a girl’s best friend.
Nice!

The ring(s) from Magnum, P.I
If you ask most people today about whether they’ve seen a show called “Magnum, P.I”, they’d go: “huh?”
But if you grew up in the 1980s, loved Ferraris, Magnum firearms and er, dobermen, you might recall the show easily.
The American crimedrama serial, which first aired in 1980, revolves around three main characters, Magnum (the lead character played by Tom Selleck), T.C., and Rick. Interestingly, all three gentlemen wore rings bearing an insignia of the Croix de Lorraine.
The Croix de Lorraine ring is a piece of jewelry inspired by the Cross of Lorraine, a symbol with deep historical significance, particularly in France. The Cross of Lorraine itself consists of two horizontal bars across a vertical one, and it has been associated with various historical and political movements. This unique ring was explored a little more in the last season of the TV show, which throughout history, has remained a symbol of pride and independence.
It’s incredible to know how something as small as a ring can have such a major impact on the underlying narrative of a movie or TV show. Not only that, but rings also mark the beginning of a new life for both celebrities and regular folks alike.
